Abstract: The management of road traffic is fast becoming a matter of concern. The number of accidents on roads has increased greatly in traffic it is the necessity to build a safer and much more reliable system for to Traffic congestion has been causing many critical problems and challenge the major and most populated cities. The increased traffic has led to waiting times and fuel wastages. To overcome such issues, we have proposed a smart traffic light control and congestion avoidance system during emergencies for ambulance. The system consists of two parts: Smart traffic light control system and Smart traffic routing system. First part of the system controls the traffic light system smartly for emergency vehicles and second part of the system tries to avoid congestions caused by traffic jams. In this controller a vehicle sense connected to the embedded system which in turn is connected to the ZIG (ZIGBEE) for sharing information regarding congestion. The controller will control traffic of all the signal junctions and manages the traffic efficiently embedded control device is used to provide alternative route. By placing sensors at certain distance from the traffic signal poles, the approximate trat density on all lanes are indicated. We store the data base with the help of base with the help of ZIGBEE and Microcontroller unit is used to publish the alternate route message through LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) display. The proposed traffic controller using embedded system. which gives the safe and efficient traffic flow, to assign the right way and minimizes the delay or waiting time of the people.
