Abstract: A vehicle number plate detection system is a computer-based technology that can automatically identify the license plate of a vehicle using a camera. This system is commonly used in traffic management, parking management, law enforcement, and toll collection systems. The primary goal of this technology is to automate the process of identifying vehicle numbers, thus reducing the need for manual intervention and improving the efficiency of various transportation related activities. The system works by using image processing and pattern recognition algorithms to locate and extract the number plate from an image captured by a camera. The algorithm then segments the characters on the plate and recognizes them using optical character recognition (OCR) techniques. This automated system provides an efficient and accurate way of identifying vehicles compared to the traditional manual method. The use of such systems has been driven by the need to increase security, reduce traffic congestion, and improve road safety. However, the accuracy of the system depends on several factors, including the quality of the image, the type of camera used, and the complexity of the number plate design.
